first_imgJune 12, 2018 /Sports News – Local Five Weber State Wildcats Named to HERO Preseason All-America Team Tags: Brady May/Iosua Opeta/LeGrand Toia/Rashid Shaheed/Trey Tuttle/Weber State Football Brad James Written by FacebookTwitterLinkedInEmailOGDEN, Utah-Off the heels of an impressive performance against James Madison in the FCS quarterfinals last season, the Weber State football team has five players on the HERO preseason All-American list as released Tuesday.In fact, only the defending FCS national champion North Dakota State Bison, with six such players being honored, have more than the Wildcats.These players include senior fullback Brady May, senior offensive lineman Iosua Opeta, sophomore receiver/return specialist Rashid Shaheed, senior linebacker LeGrand Toia and sophomore kicker Trey Tuttle.May, a native of Heyburn, Idaho, is a first-team All-American, listed as such as a special teams player. He has shown brilliance as both a receiver and runner as a fullback for Jay Hill’s squad in the past.Opeta, a Stansbury Park, Utah native, is a second-team All-American and earned first-team All-American honors last season.Toia, a native of Riverton, Utah, was also named as a second-teamer and led the Wildcats in tackles last season with 79 and was a first-team All-Big Sky performer, while also leading the Wildcats in sacks in 2017.Shaheed, a San Diego product, burst onto the Division I scene by averaging 29.7 yards per kickoff return last season, including two kickoff returns for scores last season, one of which was an 100-yard return. As a receiver, Shaheed amassed 25 grabs for 545 yards and three scores last season for the Wildcats.Tuttle, a native of Arlington, Texas, was a 2017 All-American as a freshman after making 86 percent (19 of 22) of his field goals last season, good for fourth in the nation.  His 19 field goals on the season tied a Weber State single-season record.The Wildcats begin the season August 30 by facing Utah at Rice-Eccles Stadium with their home opener coming September 15 against the South Dakota Coyotes at Stewart Stadium.last_img
