If it is approved, lieutenants would get a 6 percent raise and captains would get a 7 percent raise, city documents show. “I think we gave them close to what they were asking for,” said Councilman Ricardo Pacheco. “Maybe we don’t always give them what they want. They wanted more, but we settled on what we settled on, something more affordable for the city.” Capt. Michael Taylor said members of the association did not see pay raises when the earlier contract was approved in 2004. “All we got out of that contract was two performance step increases,” he said. “In other words, those are merit increases based on merit when get your (evaluation).” Education incentives were also approved at that time: a 2 percent pay increase for obtaining an associate’s degree, an 8 percent increase for a bachelor’s and a 10 percent increase for a master’s, Taylor said. Pacheco said the current proposal would put police management employees at about midrange compared to what other cities pay lieutenants and captains. “Of course, they preferred to be at top of what other cities could afford to pay, which is probably like 10 percent more than what we can afford,” Pacheco said. “But we need to be able to pay our officers and other services throughout the city. HOPES ARE growing of a petrol and diesel price war in Donegal – after one filling station slashed its prices.Whilst most petrol stations in the county were charging €1.44 for a litre of diesel and €1.48 for a litre petrol last night (with some nearer the border asking for €1.53 for petrol), one operator in Letterkenny was slashing back the price.Sweeney’s EuroSpar at Ballyraine in Letterkenny is charging €1.41 for diesel and €1.46 for petrol. Former England striker Dean Ashton has criticised how Roy Hodgson has handled himself since England’s loss to Iceland, claiming his actions have treated the fans like ‘dirt’.Hodgson announced his resignation as England boss minutes after the final whistle blew to end a humiliating defeat at the hands of Iceland, which knocked the Three Lions out of Euro 2016.It was another low point in a reign which has brought many for the 68-year-old, and after reading a short statement following the game, he waited until Tuesday to formally address the media in a press conference.Whilst it may appear as if he was reaching out to answer questions about his spell in charge, the veteran coach was in a frosty mood, starting by claiming: “I don’t really know what I’m doing here”.He gave few answers to truly address the calamitous display at the Euros, and Ashton believes Hodgson has been ‘disgusting’ to handle himself in such a manner.Speaking to Kick Off, the once-capped international said: “The way Roy has handled himself since last night, I just find it disgusting.“I just cannot believe the arrogance of the man to come out and be the way he has been, in terms of saying ‘I don’t know why I’m here’.“That’s just saying to all English football fans as if they’re just a piece of dirt and he doesn’t really care.”Whilst people have often doubted whether Hodgson is truly an elite manager who is capable of leading a club to silverware, he has always been considered a genial man who has acted in a more than composed manner for his entire career.However, Ashton is starting to doubt Hodgson’s true character, suggesting his recent actions make him question how the coach acted throughout the duration of the tournament.The retired striker continued: “I’m just amazed as to how he’s handled that considering how many people have said what a proper bloke he is.“To act the way he has done, that then makes you think about how he has been throughout the tournament.”
